Raitt brings clean energy leaders to Halton
October 23, 2009
First National Roundtable on Clean Energy Hosted in Halton MILTON, ONTARIO. The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, today held a roundtable meeting that was focused on how best to advance the uptake of clean energy in Canada. The Minister met in Halton with a diverse group of senior decision-makers ranging from government, industry and non-governmental organizations to the academic sector, to discuss Integrated Community Energy Solutions (ICES). “It was an honour to host key stakeholders here in Halton while we have this very important discussion to determine the best path for Canada’s energy future,” said Lisa Raitt, Member of Parliament for Halton and Minister of Natural Resources. “Together, we have made significant progress and we must keep this momentum going strong.” Participants shared their various perspectives on the path forward for ICES, highlighting success stories of communities that already incorporate this practice and identifying options to overcome potential obstacles to broad-scale incorporation of ICES in communities across the country. “These roundtables will help ensure that Canada remains a clean energy superpower while continuing to advance energy efficiency, and I am glad this conversation started right here in Halton.” Raitt said. The national roundtable on Renewable Energy will take place on November 4 in Ottawa. The third roundtable, on Clean Energy Research and Development, will be split into a non-fossil fuel session on November 5 in Ottawa and a fossil fuel session on November 6 in Calgary. |
