Milton will benefit from joint federal and provincial funding to improve community recreational infrastructure
July 15, 2009
Milton, ON — Milton will benefit from joint federal and provincial funding to improve community recreational infrastructure, announced today under the Recreational Infrastructure Canada program in Ontario (RInC Ontario) and Recreation Ontario (Ontario REC). These projects will provide stimulus to the local economy through investments that will spur construction activity related to recreational infrastructure. Improving recreational facilities and services will also encourage higher levels of participation in physical activity and community building. “I am proud to announce these upgrades to the John Tonelli Sports Centre and the Nassagaweya Tennis Courts in Milton,” said Minister Raitt. “Our Government is committed to investing in projects that will improve our communities, create jobs and stimulate the economy.” "A sport and recreation facility is much more than bricks and mortar," said Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn. "Sport and recreation facilities are community hubs, where people of all ages can become engaged in their community, explore their leadership potential, and maybe even discover an athletic talent." “On behalf of Milton Council, I would like to thank the federal and provincial governments for recognizing the value of investing in our communities,” said Milton Mayor Gordon Krantz. “Investments in local infrastructure projects help boost the local economy and reduce the burden on the local taxpayer.” |
